Before the Lifts Turn: Diamond Peak's 2026-27 Winter on an Incline Resident's Calendar

"DP is viewed as the district's 'cash cow', with profits generated from the venue supporting other recreation facilities." That line comes from IVGID's September 2026 status update on the Snowflake Lodge, where the district summarized how its Trustees think about the mountain above Incline Village. Because the resort is community-owned, its prices, its capital projects and its calendar run through the district's Board. The same district also runs the beaches, the Chateau and the Village Green. This fall that matters more than usual. Diamond Peak is projecting a Thursday, Dec. 3, 2026 opening, conditions permitting, but most of what an Incline resident decides about this winter has to be settled weeks before then.

A Third Price Step, Timed to the Holidays

The IVGID Picture Pass rate card for 2026-27 has a new column. Diamond Peak says that "new for 2026, IVGID season pass prices will also increase in mid-December when public passes increase." The new Regular tier runs from Dec. 19 through early March, and the resort hasn't posted its price yet. So the resident pass now goes up twice after the spring early-bird sale, once on Nov. 1 and again on Dec. 19.

Dec. 19 also starts the first 2026-27 peak period, which runs through Jan. 3, 2027. The other two peak periods are Jan. 16 to 18 and Feb. 13 to 21, 2027. The third price step and the holiday crowds arrive on the same Saturday.

Here is how the posted adult and family rates compare for the 2026-27 season, as of early October 2026:

Pass category IVGID Preseason, through Oct. 31 IVGID Prewinter, Nov. 1 to Dec. 18 Public Preseason, through Oct. 31 Public Prewinter, Nov. 1 to Dec. 18
Adult, 24 to 64 $412 $513 $588 $733
Youth, 13 to 23 $248 $309 $495 $618
Child, 7 to 12 $141 $170 $282 $341
Senior, 65 to 69 $259 $309 $519 $618
Super Senior, 70 to 79 $113 $136 $282 $341

The resident discount matters most for families. A Picture Pass youth pass is $248 this month, roughly half the $495 public price. An adult pass is $176 below the public rate in October and $220 below it in the Prewinter window. Missing the Oct. 31 deadline adds $101 to a resident adult pass. Children 6 and under and adults 80 and over ski free under both programs.

Day tickets are the other half of the math. Picture Pass holders pay $40 for an adult lift ticket on value days and non-peak weekends, and $50 during peak periods. At October's $412, the adult pass pays for itself on the eleventh non-peak day of the season. At the Prewinter $513, it takes thirteen. The transferable pass is $1,269 in the Preseason, Prewinter and Regular windows, and residents get no discount on it.

Two other details affect the budget. Diamond Peak sets season pass age by the holder's age on Dec. 1, and IVGID Recreation Punch Cards can't be used toward the discounted season pass rates.

The Weekend Before the Deadline

Diamond Peak's first two events of the season fall in mid-October, two weeks before the Preseason price ends.

Diamond Peak's winter hiring fair is on Saturday, Oct. 17, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the resort. The next day, the Diamond Peak Ski Team holds its Community Ski & Snowboard Swap, Sunday, Oct. 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. near the Ski Team Building in the upper parking lot. Skis, snowboards, boots and outerwear change hands, and the sale supports the Diamond Peak Ski Education Foundation, the nonprofit behind the team. If the gear is sorted by Sunday afternoon, the pass decision is all that's left, and the lower price holds for another two weeks.

Six Dates Between Now and the Holidays

The fall calendar lines up into one sequence:

  1. Oct. 17, Saturday. Winter job fair at Diamond Peak, 9 to 11 a.m.
  2. Oct. 18, Sunday. Community Ski & Snowboard Swap in the upper lot, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  3. Oct. 31, Saturday. Last day of Preseason pass pricing for both IVGID and public passes.
  4. Nov. 13, Friday. The annual Pray for Snow Party at Alibi Incline Public House, hosted with Village Ski Loft. It's free and family-friendly and usually includes a ski film, games and a raffle for the Diamond Peak Ski Team. Food, drinks and raffle tickets are sold at the event.
  5. Dec. 3, Thursday. Projected opening day, conditions permitting.
  6. Dec. 18 and 19, Friday and Saturday. Prewinter pricing ends on the 18th. The new Regular tier and the first peak period both start on the 19th.

Dec. 3 is a plan, not a promise. One older event page on Diamond Peak's site still lists opening day as TBD, and the resort's newer announcement carries the weather caveat. The pricing dates are firm. Opening day depends on the snow.

What the First Chair Brings

Diamond Peak opened as Ski Incline on Nov. 19, 1966. Because that anniversary falls in November, the resort is extending its 60th "Diamond" celebration into this winter, with more retro "$60 Days" for lift tickets and learn-to-ski packages still to be announced. Local artist Bryn Merrell designed a commemorative poster from one of the resort's panoramic lake views, and free copies are available at Diamond Peak events and at the Diamond Peak Sports Shop in the Base Lodge.

The rest of the season's changes are practical:

  • Longer beginner lessons. Group lessons at the Ski & Ride Center and the Children's Ski & Ride Center now run 2.5 hours, from 9:30 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 3:30 p.m.
  • More snow at the base. A TechnoAlpin TT10 tower-mounted fan gun and a TR10 movable fan gun now cover the base area, where several trails meet and the chairlift loading areas need extra snowpack.
  • Waffles in the plaza. The new Get Lifted Coffee + Waffles trailer will be in the Base Area Plaza on busy weekends and holidays.
  • Friday Fundays. Local DJ Dom Morelli hosts après-ski DJ nights at the Loft Bar in the Base Lodge on select Fridays, moving out to the Loft Bar Sun Deck when the weather allows.
  • Flex Passes for lighter seasons. Discounted 3-Day Flex Passes go on sale in time for Black Friday.
  • Early Ups for pass holders. On a date still to be set in February 2027, the Lakeview chairlift opens at 8 a.m. for season pass holders only, with a free continental breakfast at the mid-mountain Snowflake Lodge.

A season pass also includes at least 42 free lift tickets at 14 partner resorts, generally three days at each. The list runs from Tahoe Donner XC & Downhill and Mt. Shasta Ski Park to Loveland and Monarch in Colorado and Mount Bohemia in Michigan. Each pass holder also gets four discounted Bring-A-Friend tickets for Diamond Peak. For a family buying passes in October, the partner days add to the value already locked in at the Preseason price.

The Lodge on the Next Calendar

The Early Ups breakfast is planned for a building the district is now working to replace. On Sept. 23, 2026, the IVGID Board approved a contract with CCY Architects for a 30% design of a new Snowflake Lodge. The design will test a lodge of about 11,600 square feet with 3,500 square feet of deck, 160 indoor seats, 175 outdoor seats and room for an event of about 120 people. The district calls these preliminary targets and says they "do not establish a final building design or approved operating program."

The schedule gives residents defined points to weigh in. CCY and SE Group expect to present the concept at a community engagement event in early 2027, likely in January or February. A formal public Board meeting to review the final design and cost estimate is expected in March or April 2027.

Two other projects are being evaluated separately, each with its own design process and agency review. One is a replacement for the Lakeview Lift, a fixed-grip quad more than 30 years old. The other is a regrade of Ridge Run and Freeway to give beginners a green route down from the top of Lakeview. The snowmaking system, installed between 1988 and 2002, is due for a four-year, phased replacement with an engineer's cost estimate of $8,000,000. The first phase of construction is expected to start in May 2027, after the season now about to open.

Diamond Peak's next lodge, lift and snowmaking system are all being designed in public over the coming year. If you'd like to talk through how Incline's ski-season calendar figures into a property in the village, Gemme Group NV Inc is glad to share what we're seeing on the ground. Let's Connect.
